Drilling Down on Real Estate Market Statistics to Get The Real Picture in Today’s “Gloom and Doom” Reports

July 1st, 2008

I am asked how is the market doing on a daily basis and my response is great until I see statistics that state otherwise.  With that response I am usually looked at with disbelief because the constant rhetoric provided by our wonderful television indicates anything otherwise.  Reports of a bad real estate market are anything but consistent.  Why is there inconsistency?  Is it because there may be underlying agendas to manipulate the data to produce a specific outcome, or maybe it is the lack of knowledge or understanding of what is exactly taking place within the market.  Real estate is a local market.  The market in Kingwood TX can’t be compared to the market in Orange County CA.  Many factors influence the vitality of the market which can’t be generalized.  I ran across this site which is looking at the true numbers that are mined from Multiple Listing Systems across the United States.  They are quite promising so take a few minutes looking at these if you may be sitting on the fence deciding whether or not to buy or sell a home.  The site is Happy Real Estate News.  Spend some time at this site if you, like myself, are skeptical of the news about our real estate market as seen in over-generalized statements by the media and news print.  Saying this, a caveat I must leave is that there are some parts of the country, even some areas within the local market of Houston, that are struggling.  That is how localized the real estate market can be, and because the market is localized this is why it is important to work with a Realtor that has the resources to understand how your home fits in the market place.  For information on buying or selling a home in today’s market, contact Jeremy Williams with Keller Williams Realty NE in Kingwood TX.  Jeremy serves home buyers and sellers living in the northeast Houston area including Fall Creek, Summerwood, Walden on Lake Houston, Eagle Springs, Atascocita, Humble, and Kingwood.  Learn more about his services by visiting www.williams4yourhome.com where you can also view a 7 minute movie on why the Houston area is a great place to call home.
